The return of former captain James Agate and number eight Ollie Dodwell after injury stiffened the Warlingham side, but it was not enough to overcome a well-drilled Medway XV.

Medway would run out convincing 29-5 winners, leaving Warlingham third from bottom of London Division Two South East.

Warlingham pressed hard in the early stages with their pack driving hard.

Hooker James Delderfield tackled ferociously and captain Zac King, with the ubiquitous Dodwell on his shoulder, made ground frequently.

A clever chip to the corner by centre Joe McEvoy forced the home cover to carry the ball over the line for a five metre scrum.

Medway defended well and cleared their lines but Warlingham kept the pressure on - however, their ball retention let them down and turn-overs ensued.

When Warlingham infringed the Medway fly half kicked accurately forcing a five metre line out.

Medway kept possession but their drive was thwarted by stout defence by Warlingham.

Medway used plan B to sweep the ball out and a high kick was fielded by their winger who dropped over for the first converted try.

Warlingham kept on the pressure and a concerted forward effort was rewarded when winger Jack Atkinson latched onto a short pass and burrowed over the line for an unconverted try.

Clinical moves from Medway forced the visitors to infringe time and again.

Lock George Ioannou left the field with a leg injury replaced by Tom Skinner.

Warlingham's defence held firm with winger Sandy Kenny and fly half Fintan Morrison holding their own against a strong running Medway back line.

James Delderfield then left the pitch with a serious head injury but his replacement, the experienced Alex Nunn, kept the scrums going forward.

Medway's forwards were joined by the majority of their back line when a maul on the Warlingham line became static.

The extra men gained the forward momentum and try number two, again converted from the touchline, followed.

A well-rehearsed back line move saw Medway scramble their third try and an unlucky charge don gifted them their fourth, bonus point score.

Warlingham threw everything into attack and the physicality of the game became brutal and the Warlingham physio was kept busy patching up bleeding Warlingham players.

Medway were then guilty of numerous infringements but were able to settle the game with a fifth try, and Warlingham faced the long journey home pointless.

Warlingham chairman Peter Wrightson said: " Despite the score this really was a much better performance from our guys. The injuries upset our momentum but all 18 players gave their all."
