Less than 24 hours after beating the Welsh in the intimidating atmosphere of the Millennium stadium, England international Nick Easter was back in south west London orchestrating another Wimbledon win.

The Dons head coach made his return to the international scene after a four-year absence as a replacement in Friday’s RBS Six Nations opener.

Having helped England to a famous 21-16 win, Easter hot-stepped it to Beverley Meads to watch Dons smash Havant 45-0 on Saturday.

The win gives Dons a commanding seven-point lead over second-placed Chobham, who they face on February 21, in London League One South.

Dons coach James Ogilvie-Smith hailed the impact of Easter’s infectious enthusiasm on the Dons squad.

He said: “Nick’s been very instrumental. It was a a big coup bringing him in, what with his Harlequins and now his England connections.

“He has been really fabulous, and he hardly ever misses a session.”

He added: “The boys were shocked when he turned up on Saturday, and those kinds of things have a bit effect on the players.

Wandsworth Times:

Among the tries: Josh Charles went over the whitewash in Wimbledon's heavy win over Havant at the weekend

“He is very committed and if we do go up Nick will want to test himself.”

Seven tries put Havant to the sword, with skipper Neil Hallett slotting five conversions.

Shaun Renwick, Pete Wallace, Charlie Morgan, Ti Pairama, Josh Charles and Rhys Morgan spread the tries around, with a second-half penalty try shovelling salt into gaping Havant wounds.

It was another handsome haul for the Dons to boost their already healthy points-for column.

“We don’t target a game, but if we stick to our style of play as well as we can do the tries will come,” said Ogilvie-Bull.

Ogilvie-Bull also said coach Tim Payne’s departure to London Scottish has not meant a permanent severing of the ways.

“He [Payne] is now coaching at London Scottish on a full-time basis during the day, but he is committed to us after work in the evenings,” said Ogilvie-Bull.

“We are happy to have him and more than pleased with all the effort he has put in.”
