Richmond travelled to Redruth knowing that the hosts had only lost one game at home so far this season and that by a single point.

The six hour return bus journey was therefore a very happy place having secured both a 36-23 win and a four-try bonus point.

Richmond started well when after three minutes they attacked from just outside their own half.

A searing break by outside centre Duncan Peters set up a thirty metre run in and finish for left wing James Greenwood.

Tom Platt converted from out wide.

Redruth responded almost immediately with a Brett Rule penalty.

Two minutes later Redruth were in front courtesy of an excellent break from scrum half Goodfellow who put away centre Parsons to score. Rule’s conversion gave Redruth a 10-7 lead.

Richmond went further behind after another Rule penalty, however, whenever Richmond kept the ball they looked likely to score.

From a series of phases, quick hands resulted in Greenwood getting the ball with twenty metres to go and two defenders to beat.

His pace and power secured another five points for Richmond.

Redruth were very competitive at the breakdown and this secured their third successful penalty kick of the half.

The hosts appeared to be going into half time with a 16-15 lead , however well won turnover ball by Chris Davies, an excellent support line from Will Browne and again precise hands saw Duncan Peters go over to score.

Platt added the extra two points to ensure a 22-16 Richmond half time lead.

Whatever was said at half time certainly aroused the tiger in the Richmond pack.

The first twenty minutes of the half saw the Richmond pack make a series of inroads into the hosts defence.

Direct running from Will Warden, Doug Abbott and Tom George produced a series of excellent possessions for the backs to use.

A superb line break from number eight Harison Edwards saw him draw the full back to put James Brooks over the line and secure the four try bonus point.

Platt converted from in front of the posts.

Five minutes later the match looked secured when solid centre Tom Gregory drove over under the posts.

Again Platt added two points. At 36- 16 down Redruth threw caution to the wind and again looked dangerous. The Richmond defence appeared secure until wing Will Browne had some kind of brain malfunction and threw a quick lineout ball into the Redruth lock and allowed the hosts to score another seven points courtesy of David Bonds and Brett Rule.

Being within two scores energised Redruth and Richmond had to draw on all their defensive capabilities in the last fifteen minutes.

This they did and in one passage of play knocked back the opposition a total of twenty-one phases inside their own 22m area.

The defensive wall held and Richmond secured the win.

With most other games called off due to the weather this victory gives Richmond an eleven point lead at the top of the table. Redruth’s home form will undoubtedly play a part in the forthcoming promotion race.
