Despite his disappointment in defeat to Old Priorians, Twickenham’s head of senior rugby Andy Rees paid homage to his side’s
conquerors.

Twickenham’s chances of promotion as champions from London Division Two North West hang by a thread after the 20-28 defeat at
Parkfields.

They still lead the table from Old Priorians by four points, but their bogey team – the only team to beat them in two seasons – have a game in hand as they end their campaign with home and away clashes with mid-table HAC.

“All credit to Old Priorians, they played extremely well. They dictated the play and did not allow us to play our normal game,” said Rees ahead of the season finale at relegated London Nigerian tomorrow.

“As a fan it was difficult to watch and there were some choice words afterwards as the lads were absolutely gutted. They knew they had not done themselves justice.”

Barring an Old Priorians collapse, Twickenham will be in the play-offs for a place in the top flight of the London leagues.

And irrespective of their opponents, Rees reckons they remain confident of
victory.

“Old Priorians still need to win both their games, and my head is telling me that is likely to happen, so it is the play-offs for us,” he said.

“We won’t know the opposition for some time, but it will be team second in one of the London Two leagues and we know we are superior to the teams around those places in terms of wins, bonus points and defence.”
