Weybridge Vandals full back Cassian Bramham-Law says if he doesn’t win a rugby Blue the hard work would have been worth it providing Oxford University triumph in the Varsity match this year.

The 26-year-old scored in Oxford’s final Siberian tour match against professional Russian outfit RC Krasni Yar last week, which ended in a 29-17 defeat.

The final matchday squad for the traditional clash at Twickenham on December 8 is not made until the end of November.

But Bramham-Law, who is studying a DPhil in Archeological Sciences, admits he is only worried about the result.

“Everyone is pushing each other so hard, because everyone wants to be in the starting team,” he said.

“Even if I didn’t play, providing the team won it would mean as much to know I had played a part in helping the team be successful.

“I’d love to get a Blue. It would probably be the proudest day of my life.”

It is the second time Bramham-Law has attempted to win a Blue after a shoulder injury wrecked his chances last year.

He made only a handful of appearances at Brownacres last term, but hopes to pass on his experiences back to head coach Nick Ridley’s men on his return.

“The Oxford ethos is to mix the best facilities and practices from professional rugby, while staying true to the games’ amateur roots,” he added.

“It is a similar crack at Vandals and having been coached by the likes of Charlie Hodgson, it would be nice to be able to pass that back.”

Daryl Bryant, Mike Edmundson and Phil Garrett were on the scoresheet, but it was not enough to stop Vandals from slipping to a 35-21 defeat at Ellingham & Ringwood on Saturday.

They host struggling Andover this week.
