Robson wants good Fed Cup showing in Olympic year

British No.4 Laura Robson is looking forward to representing her country in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas this weekend, writes Adam Moulder.

The 18-year-old Londoner is in Borås ahead of the tie between the Aegon GB Fed Cup Team and Sweden on today and tomorrow.

Robson, who lives in Wimbledon, said: “It’s been good so far [in Sweden], really really cold, but the atmosphere [in the GB camp] has been great, we’ve had two nice training sessions, so I’m really looking forward to the next few days.

"The court will suit us and I think we’ll have a really good time. I love Fed Cup, it’s great to be in a team environment, Judy’s a fantastic captain, it’s going to be a good week.”

The Fed Cup tie between Sweden & GB is a World Group II Promotion Play-off and will see two singles matches on the first day before the singles are reversed on day two and the tie is completed with a doubles rubber.

The other members of the British team are Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong and Heather Watson, and they are captained by Judy Murray.

In February the British team beat Portugal, Netherlands, Israel & Austria in four matches in four days to move out of Euro/Africa Zone Group I for the first time since 1993.

The next few months will be exciting for Robson as she looks to get her ranking up ahead of the grass court season, with the world No.121 playing Wimbledon and then hoping to be a part of the London 2012 Olympic Games just a few weeks later.

Speaking about London 2012 the Briton continued: “It’s something I really want to be a part of so I’m going to try and work hard to make it happen.

"My mum has tickets for swimming, hockey and basketball so if I am home I would love to go and watch some stuff too.”

For now though, the focus is on Fed Cup, and the getting the team into World Group II with a victory away to Sweden this weekend.
