News from across the Atlantic is that The Fault in Our Stars has just exceeded the $100m mark, making the film the most profitable hit in the US in 2014. The film was made on a relatively small budget and was helped by the fact that the book of the same name was a number one best seller by author John Green. It also had some good marketing from social media. John Green already has his own You Tube channel and has a large following with a readymade audience and the news spread through digital word of mouth.
