  • The UK has 756 cinemas with 3,867 screens.  Practically every screen is now equipped with a digital projection system, replacing the former 35mm reels.
     
  • The top grossing UK cinema release of all time is Skyfall (2012), which generated £102.9 million in UK cinema ticket sales.

  • The top release of 2013 was Despicable Me 2, which grossed £47.5 million in UK cinema ticket sales.

  • In January–June 2014, UK cinemagoers spent £550 million on cinema tickets. The overall total in the full year 2013 was £1.16 billion, so 2014 is on course to be another buoyant, dynamic year.
     
  • The top film in the first half of 2014 was The Lego Movie, a February release, seen by approximately 5 million UK cinemagoers.

  • The Inbetweeners 2 has recently achieved the biggest opening of any film in 2014 to date (£12.5 million box-office receipts in its first 5 days).

  • The single biggest week for cinema visits in 2014 to date is w/c 14 February, when The Lego Movie was just out.  In that (half-term) week alone, UK cinemagoers spent £40.5 million on cinema tickets.
  • ​The most popular 3D release in 2014 to date is X-Men: Days of Future Past. So far this year, 3D presentations have accounted for £65.5 million in cinema ticket sales.
