On Tuesday 24 February the University of Roehampton will be hosting another Social Start-Ups evening, featuring a fascinating line up of speakers talking about the ins and outs of their social enterprises.

We’d like to extend an open invite to all local people and hopeful entrepreneurs  in the borough to come along, have a lovely hot chocolate and listen to the stories of some inspirational people doing inspirational work, all the while helping others and giving back to their communities in doing so.

The event has been organised in partnership with City Lights and Growhampton and will be happening in The Hive Café on the University campus kicking off at 7pm. Have a look at this great line up of speakers:

George Turner from Carney’s Community:

Carney’s Community is a registered charity based in Battersea and helps disadvantaged and excluded young people get off the streets and away from a life of crime by giving them skills, discipline and self-respect. George will tell us about the amazing transformations in the young people he has worked with.

Johnny McHugh from Paradise Co-op:

A local community farm bringing people together through an acre of paradise opposite Wandsworth Prison. Paradise Co-op offers opportunities for the community to come together and get involved and work on projects inspired by the land. Johnny will tell us about the amazing city pigs he raises on this urban farm and much more.

Toby Beazley from Dance for Parkinson’s UK:

The network is a group of experienced teachers of dance from all over the UK for people with Parkinson’s disease dedicated to providing a fun and therapeutic dance experience to people with Parkinson’s. The dance for Parkinson’s movement has taken off around the world and Toby will share his experiences within the UK.

Well I don’t know about you but I am certainly looking forward to hearing these varied and interesting stories with a lovely hot beverage in hand from our very own social enterprise, The Hive Café. You’ll find The Hive located in Digby Square on Digby Stuart College. Look forward to seeing you there at 7pm.
