Primary school pupils who have been enjoying Book Month throughout March were given more cause to celebrate when Red Nose Day fever took hold.

Youngsters at Westbridge Primary School, in Bolingbroke Walk, Battersea, were joined by Wandsworth’s mayor, Councillor Piers McCausland, last Friday for a pyjama-themed day in aid of Comic Relief.

All month the pupils have been taking part in Team Read, a competition which challenges the children to read six books before April in order to win a certificate and a medal.

They have also been engaged in Speed Reading sessions, where youngsters talk about their favourite book and persuade their classmates to vote for it.

The school also arranged a poetry assembly to celebrate World Poetry Day on Monday and plan to cap the month off with a book fair, where the children can spend their World Book Day £1 vouchers on their favourite stories.
