I noted with interest your article about shop owners' anger as a hire bike docking station has replaced what was car parking bays.

Whilst I appreciate the concerns raised by local businesses, there are many reports which show that improving walking and cycling conditions is good for business.

Some customers of course drive to buy items from Broadway Bathrooms, however I've no doubt that the shop would also offer a delivery and perhaps even an installation service too.

In those instances, how customers arrive at the store would have no impact on sales.

It would appear that none of the neighbouring businesses need their customers to drive cars to their stores.

People using the hire bikes would have no concerns about parking to prevent them enjoying a pint in the local pub, collecting a prescription from the pharmacy, drinking a leisurely coffee in some of the neighbouring cafes, or picking up some flowers from the florist.

It may well be that all local shop owners see an increase in business when the hire bike scheme is opened locally later this year.
