I read the letter from Bob Knowles about too many people using Putney Station with interest.
Unfortunately, he seems to be unaware of the many improvements to Putney transport infrastructure that have already taken place, will be coming on stream in the near future and longer term plans that are taking shape.
We have already seen a significant upgrade of the river boat services providing residents with increased travel choices and work is already taking place to improve the capacity at the entrance to Putney Station.
In the next few months we will see longer trains using Putney station, providing significant extra capacity as well as the launch of Boris Bikes in Putney.
The success of London and the growth this has lead to is stretching transport infrastructure across the capital.
Lots of work is already taking place on how London can cope with an additional 20 per cent increase in the population by 2030 including by the Council.
In Putney's case, this includes looking at an additional entrance to Putney station and making more platforms available at Waterloo allowing more trains to use Putney.
However, improvements to infrastructure will require significant sums of money to be invested.
That is why Tooting MP Sadiq Khan's proposals to cut train fares and hence cut investment are so short sighted.
Fortunately, London and Wandsworth have Conservative politicians who recognise the need to invest in our infrastructure rather than make short term populist announcements.
Councillor Russell King; Wandsworth Council's cabinet member for strategic planning and transportation (Conservative)
