I am somewhat dismayed at the letter last week regarding Babar Ahmad and Sadiq Khan.
Mr Khan has acknowledged himself that both Babar Ahmad and Syed Talha Ahsan face very serious allegations and that they should have faced trial in the UK.
This is very clear in every statement I could find on the issue on his website.
In fact as a former lawyer and the current Shadow Justice Minister, Mr Khan has been very critical of the UK justice system in its failure to try these two men in a UK Court of Law.
So to suggest he ‘defended’ Babar Ahmed and Syed Talha Ahsan is very misleading.
These men were his constituents, and as their Member of Parliament, Mr Khan was right to ask that they be tried in their own country and that they be treated to a fair judicial process. Surely he can’t be criticised for this?
It is also worth pointing out that the current Conservative Mayor of London, Boris Johnson also called for Mr Ahmad to be put on trial in the UK. I wonder if Ms Seccombe will be complaining about him as well?
I think some careful research could have saved Ms Seccombe the time and effort of writing her letter in the first place.
