The Wandsworth Guardian letters page has a fine tradition and often features a rich diversity of letters containing humour, politics, and above all community spirit.
Therefore it was to my dismay that those fine traditions were undermined last week by a dodgy letter attacking the local MP Sadiq Khan over his campaign to protect Tooting’s high streets.
As any reader of the WG could tell you, Mr Khan has been part of the Save the Wheatsheaf campaign right from the start back in August, gaining plaudits from residents, CAMRA officials and Wheatsheaf staff themselves, and as a quick internet search shows, has been campaigning against the rising numbers of uncontrolled betting shops for years, including urging residents to submit consultation responses to the Amen Corner William Hill back in 2012.
It seems enemies of Mr Khan seem to apply a certain level of ‘damned if he does, damned if he doesn't’ line of ad hominem logic to their attacks.
If crude hatchet job attempts on Mr Khan are going to be showcased on these pages then surely the least the author owes readers is to get their facts right?
