At the age of 69 I had a completely new experience. I had a manicure at the 50th anniversary celebrations at Providence House in Clapham Junction.
It is appropriate to put on record my appreciation of what has been achieved by all those who have ever worked and volunteered at the youth club.
During the 40 years I have lived in the area I have seen how many young people have turned from loveable rogues into charming and positive members of the community as a result of the club.
On Saturday the number of adults who returned to the club to share in the celebrations was a testament to the lifelong effect that Providence House has had on them.
This coming weekend we celebrate another diamond in the community. The Katharine Low Settlement is marking 90 years of making lives better for all of us who live in Battersea.
For me, Saturday underlined the need for the Council to support a variety of youth facilities - not just big, fancy schemes - and for all of us to be grateful for the hard work at and success of Providence House and the Katharine Low Settlement.
Unlike these two massive projects, my blue nails haven't passed the test of time!
