The South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust are currently midway through a public consultation on future services.

Among some of the proposals is the closure of the inpatient wards at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, the closure of various units at Springfield Hospital, Tooting and the relocation of many services to Tolworth Hospital.

These changes will be accompanied by a substantial decrease in staffing levels, but as yet the trust has failed to publish their plans for community services.

At a time of an increasing emphasis on mental health within the community, this seems to be a very narrow-minded approach.
