I live in Maysoule Road behind Battersea Sports Centre and I recently signed the Battersea Labour MP candidate’s petition “to save” the sports centre.

I am now surprised (and very angry) to read his comments in last week’s Guardian. He now seems to be saying he is happy in principle for the sports centre to close once other facilities have been built elsewhere in the borough.

I and lots of other local people were persuaded by the Labour MP candidate and local councillors to sign their petition to save the sports centre, not just for the short-term but for the long-term.

We feel betrayed that Labour have now changed their stance on the quiet.

Did they think we would not notice?

It is sad that local people have been used as part of a party political campaign.

We feel we have been misled.

Only a few months from the election and we are left wondering whether all the Labour MP candidate wanted was our email addresses for his campaign.
