I read the letter about the service cuts in the Wandsworth Guardian (Council savings means cuts that affect us all, February 19).

I was so sad to read about this as we all rely on services. I have had budget assessments done a few times and I was never informed about contributing for services until I received a letter in 2013 telling me I contribute a certain amount.

We have to contribute some money especially if we are on a certain amount of benefit. I was not even consulted about this either until 2013 when I received a letter from the budget people asking me to contribute. But I had not heard from them until I went for another assessment this month and still anxiously awaiting the result of how much I may have to contribute and they will probably also ask for back pay, which I may not be able to afford.

If we cannot work through no fault of our own because we are sick and disabled and we rely on such benefits such as disability benefits, the council want us to contribute to services we use now.

Is that fair or not?

In the past people like me who suffer from mental health problems never paid for any service that was open for us plus we had places to go to especially for help and support. Unfortunately we are not receiving as much as we used to. Nowadays if we ask for support we have to contribute towards this.

I know a lot of people now having to pay for this service, which is totally unfair and should not be necessary.

No one chooses to be ill and live on welfare benefits. Sick and disabled people deserve welfare benefits and not be ripped off by council services.

I agree everything that the people mentioned in the “your say” column.

Services are closing down because of this, because not enough funding is given to organisations to run.

Why does the council not find another way to keep the services going for free to the community?
