Wandsworth Council has sent so called “tree surgeons” in for another round of savage tree mutilation in our area. Unlike the trees commented on in your letters page last week these are mature trees, trees that are not causing any problem to buildings.
The foliage of these trees gives, or gave, us some protection from the constant whine and drone of aircraft and blocks the view of Wandsworth’s ugly architecture, in addition to absorbing air pollution.
Why do they never ask us if we want the trees mutilated (and I mean reduced to a trunk with a few oddly shaped branches) rather than pruned, and where do they get the money to keep paying these people to carry out this sad destruction?
