Today we witnessed Banter FC in their biggest test so far, when they faced Wallington Wanderers FC, who were top of the league, and who had already beaten Banter in the first game of the season. Banter who have not lost a match since that opening fixture were up for the game right from the off, and having won the toss elected to start the match playing downhill, and with the wind. They started the match explosively, and after some neat passing and constant pressure quickly forced Wallington into conceding a penalty which was first saved by the keeper, but followed up by Aaron Gaughan who neatly slotted the ball into the net. Banters second goal came when Bas Morally cut inside from the wing and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. Jack Hart then quickly put Banter three up after breaking down the right and slotting the ball home calmly. Blair Lettman, Banters man of the match then went on to score two before the end of the half, after taking the ball expertly around the keeper both times to stroke the ball home. Wallington FC came out in the second half all guns blazing and showed why they were top of the league by scoring two goals in the first ten minutes, fully taking advantage of playing downhill and with the wind at their backs. However Banter FC showed their character and the back three of Kevin Govier, Aaron BG, and Dylan Merchant, remained resolute and dealt with the attacks from Wallington superbly. Then ten minutes from time Banter FC finished the game off when Bas Morally rounded the keeper and was brought down, leaving Blair Lettman to convert the penalty kick and score his hat trick. Ricky Burgess, who took up a more managerial role for this clash, said in an interview after the game " I was pleased to have got the tactics right for the game, and am extremely happy with the efforts of all the players today"
