Residents of Wandsworth may soon experience twice as many night flights, if recommendations from the Davies Commission go ahead. This decision was based on the 57 decibel noise benchmark that dismisses noise impact from aircraft over Putney, Wandsworth Town and Battersea.
According to Wandsworth Council, and as many residents know, this benchmark is ‘complete fantasy’. The Council and the all-party 2M Group prepared and launched an independent noise report in the House of Commons that challenges the way that the impact of aircraft noise is measured.
‘Night flights cause physical exhaustion,’ said a local Wandsworth resident. ‘They affect our ability to work, and our overall enjoyment of life.’ An e-petition has been created that could result in a discussion of night flights in the House of Commons. Residents who want a quiet night sky should sign it before its deadline on the 14th March, 2014. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/47098 Based on information supplied by Angela Clarke.
