Right now there’s a lot of people heading to lofts, garages and their parents’ house in search of their old collection of Star Wars toys.
That’s because a single model – a 35-year-old Boba Fett to be precise – has just sold at auction for £18,000.
While the buyer has remained anonymous so far, the superfan behind the sale, Craig Stevens, is inspiring a whole generation of people to rethink where they put their own toys.
It’s worth pointing out that the figure sold by Stevens via Vectis auction House in Teesside was in pristine condition, so much so it was described as “factory fresh”. It had never even had a hole put in the packaging to allow it to be hung up.
The toy would have retailed for £1.50 in 1980 when it was released. In 1990, a figure in similar condition would sell for £50.
As well as sparking a frantic search for their own toys, the eye-catching selling price has also sparked a fair bit of ribbing among friends.
And we’ve got to feel sorry for this guy, don’t we?
As for the seller? He’s going to buy a house with his wife Karen and he’s still got 10,000 items in his collection.
