It’s a bittersweet final for Bake Off 2016 as viewers’ excitement is mingled with mourning for the last ever series with the nation’s favourite culinary auntie, Mary Berry.
It has been an impressive seventh series of biscuit pubs, meringue menageries and even a dessert-based theme park ride, but it will be the last one we ever see on the BBC.
When the show moves to Channel 4 next year, there will be no more Mary, Mel or Sue – and die-hard fans are already sorely missing the original crew…
While, for most of us, a simple broken heart puts it best…
…for others it actually feels like saying goodbye to a member of the family.
After all, she’s taught us so much about cakery and bakery over the years.
Some are sort of trying to stay positive…
…but it’s tough when we’re pretty sure Mary must be feeling it too.
But sad thoughts for the future still didn’t stop people getting excited for the final. In some cases, perhaps a little TOO excited…
While others just hoped Mary would mark the occasion with a special exit piece…
Oh Mary, we will miss you so!
