ONE of the country's most exciting folk singers is set to take to the stage in Gwaenysgor this autumn.

The charismatic and uplifting Aberdeenshire folk singer Iona Fyfe will play Folk at the Hall in November.

Fyfe has fast become one of Scotland’s finest young ballad singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland.

At twenty-years-old, Iona has established a strong yet earnest voicing of place in canon, earning her a nomination as Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2017.

A finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Iona was also the winner of the Molloy Award at The Trip to Birmingham Irish Trad Fest 2017.

Her debut album Away From My Window - released in March 2018 - premiered in Glasgow's world renowned Celtic Connections festival, and has received heavy airplay on programmes such as BBC Radio 2 The Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk, Take The Floor and BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal.

A beautiful exploration of her unique style and songwriting voice, Away From My Window showcases the very best of the gentle, melodious Scottish folk tradition utilising well placed accompaniment to elevate her stirring, searching vocals.
