Felines will be kept snug this winter thanks to a new knitting club launched by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Animal and craft lovers are invited to join the knitting kittens club to make blankets, toys and knitted mice for the charity's homeless cats while in the company of some four-legged friends.

Creations at the club, which launches on Wednesday, October 15, will be used to keep the 250 cats at Battersea's three centres warm and entertained this winter.

SuiLi Weight, Battersea’s cattery team leader, said: "Our cats greatly appreciate their donated blankets and knitted mice to play with in their pens while they wait for a new home.

"We hope knitters of all abilities, including complete beginners who will be shown the ropes, will join the fun and relaxed group for people who enjoy the company of cats."

The monthly club will run from 5pm to 8pm and knitters are asked to bring their own needles and wool.
