Wandsworth Arts Fringe returns in May with another 16 days of music, theatre, comedy, cabaret, puppetry.

Having more than doubled in size since its debut in 2014, this year’s festival – from May 6 to 22 – features 110 (mostly free) events and more than 300 performers.

Here’s just a few to look forward to…

The Midnight Run, at Battersea Barge from 6pm to midnight on May 14

Your chance to explore London while the city sleeps, with a unique walking tour filled with artists sharing their work and encouraging participants to get creative too. Tickets cost £12.

Criminal Justice Trail at Safe Ground at noon and 2pm on May 14 and 15

Battersea’s rich criminal justice history is brought to life, giving new perspective on established landmarks and introducing you to places you would never visit, through poetic clues which lead to a final destination, which could be a poetry workshop or free entry into the spoken word performance Bite Size Poets Mic Night. It should take around one and a half to two hours.  Tickets cost £10.

Storycraft’s Jack and the Beanstalk at CraftedLondon on May 14

Children under five and their families can hear the tale of Jack, followed by an art and craft session and a chance to explore the props, softplay and an outside play area.

Citizen Squid, at Heathbrook Park from 4pm to 4.30pm on May 14

A gigantic squid has crawled into Heathbrook Park, but how did it get there and what should be done with it? Find out at this interactive big puppet show for young people and families, which looks at compassion, displacement and transition.

Lady Chastity’s Reserve at The Four Thieves from 7.30pm on May 10, 11 and 12

Pit your wits against Lady Chastity in this combination of immersive theatre, clues and comedy that has been described as ‘The Crystal Maze on crystal meth’. Tickets cost £19.

The Killing of Charles Bravo at The Bedford, from 1pm and 4pm on May 9, 12, 16, 18 and 19

This exclusive promenade performance delves into the unsolved real-life murder of Victorian lawyer Charles Bravo, who was poisoned in 1876. Explore The Bedford’s historic rooms while meeting the characters who could have been behind the crime. Tickets cost £12 or £10 concessions in advance only.

Big Art Picnic at Heathbrook Park from 1pm to 4pm on May 7

The Art Picnic returns for a second year and is packed with free arts activities including sculptural den making, sculpting with clay and other unexpected happenings.

Vinegar Strokes – Qualified Actress at The Cat’s Back, from 10.30pm on May 6 and 10pm on May 7

Coming straight outta south London, drag act Vinegar Strokes insists she is the most qualified actress and brings her first full-length stage show to The Cat’s Back with comedy and cabaret exploring sexless love, loveless sex and why Beyonce ruins everything. Tickets cost £7.

Romeo and Chulio at The Cat’s Back from 6pm on May 6 and 8.30pm on May 7

Two guys in green and orange bear suits and moustaches try to find true love. Tickets cost £7

The Ladykillers at Putney Arts Theatre from 7.45pm on May 6 and 7

Father Ted and the IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan’s stage adaptation on the classic Ealing comedy about five con men who think they have found the ideal base at the home of a little of lady is performed by Putney Theatre Company. Tickets cost £14, £10 concessions, £8 students and young people.

Gameshow at The Cat’s Back from 9pm on May 6

Gameshow changes every night as two performers put each other on the spot and see how far the other is prepared to go in order to win. Past shows have included mousetraps, paintball guns, eating contests, leg waxing, face slapping, French kisses and a whole audience custard pie fight. Expect the unexpected. Tickets cost £5.

The ‘What If’ Machine at St Mary’s Church Square, Putney, from noon to 5pm on May 6 and 7

Personalised theatre for one audience member at a time – head in to the hand-painted caravan for 15 minutes on the sofa with a chat show host who will ask you the all important questions (how you felt scaling Everest or collecting that Oscar).
