Belgrave Harriers Goldie Sayers insists she is in good health going into the all-important Olympic trials in a couple of weeks’ time.
The 33-year-old threw a disappointing 57.08m to finish ninth in women’s javelin at Birmingham Diamond League meeting last Sunday.
Latvia’s Madara Palameika continued her world-leading form in front of a packed Alexandra stadium with a season’s best victory of 65.68m, followed by Australian Kathryn Mitchell (63.93m) and Linda Stahl of Germany (61.62m).
“I'm a bit disappointed,” said Sayers, who has a season’s best of 58.79m.
“I'm going to have to find my timing because it was slightly off.
“Unfortunately the javelin isn't flying as far as I would like. I just need the competitions behind me at the moment.
The Olympic trials, which is also part of the British Championships, takes place from June 24, and Sayers hopes to achieve the A qualifying mark of 62m before she returns to the West Midlands in two weeks’ time.
“The body is fine, the health is there,” she added.
“The power is there and for me that is a big difference. I have got a few more comps before trials so I hope to throw the qualifying standard before then.”
