A fitness fundraising initiative helped to raise nearly £3,000 for foodbanks across London at the Gym in Southfields.

Volunteers cycled on static bikes at the gym in Wimbledon Park Road on August 6 and 7 raising money for the Wandsworth Foodbank and the Tower Hamlets First Love foundation.

Rosena Allin-Khan, MP for Tooting, also gave her time to the event, cycling alongside organisers on Sunday afternoon.

Organiser Mark Cazaly said: "I'm delighted to have organised this fun fitness event to raise money and awareness for the foodbank cause.

"These fantastic charities help Londoners in times of real crisis. They offer guidance on a range of issues far beyond just the basics of food, providing advice on benefits and employment issues to help people secure a sustainable future for their families.

"This whole event has shown me what amazing things you can do with some determination and good will.

"This whole event didn't cost a penny and we raised more than £1,500 for the Wandsworth Foodbank and more than £700 for Tower Hamlets. Add Gift Aid and that's almost £2,700.

"I'd like to thank everyone who helped along the way, particularly the team at The Gym Southfields who hosted us, promoted our cause and made it such a fun two days.

"We had some amazing volunteers over the weekend, it was great to see such commitment from total strangers wanting to help out and get fit."

Mr Cazaly plans to run further Donate4Fit events, and those wishing to know more should email donate4fit@gmail.com.
