Battersea primary school pupils had the chance to meet British diving champion and Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley last week.
The 23-year-old presented a free diving masterclass for children attending from St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, in Lockington Road, at Better’s Clapham Leisure Centre in Clapham Manor Road on November 2.
The group also participated in a Q&A session, quizzing the world 10 metre diving champion about his career, days in school and future plans.
Daley said: “I’m really excited to be here and meet some of the local children.
“I’m here because I want to try and get more people involved with and enjoying diving.”
Daley made an appearance at the Clapham leisure centre to promote the Tom Daley Diving Academy, with an aim to encourage more young people to take up diving.
Matthew Griffin, assistant headteacher and PE lead at St Mary’s, said: “It was a great session and brilliant for the children to have the opportunity to meet someone like Tom.
“I’d like to thank him for taking the time out to spend with the children.”
GLL is an organisation which operates Better leisure centres and collaborates with Tom Daley, with an aim to get as many people as possible into diving as a sport.
The academy is said to support the identification and development of young and talented divers.
