Wandsworth Council is set to pay the council tax bills of young people who are leaving the care system, it has been announced.
Councillors voted through the new policy, the ‘local offer’, at the education and children’s services overview and scrutiny committee meeting last night (February 9).
It will clears care leavers from tax up until they are 21 years old, also including those who live outside of Wandsworth, but it must be finalised by the executive on February 12.
Councillor Guy Senior, the council’s finance spokesman, said: “We take our duties as corporate parents very seriously and have listened to our young care leavers who told us how we can help make their transition to adult life easier."
