Visitors to a hospice in Esher were treated to a unique show last week when a chainsaw speed carver arrived through the doors.

‘Tree pirate’ Ella Fielding wowed the crowd at Princess Alice Hospice with a lump of cherry wood- after just 30 minutes with a chainsaw she had produced a carving of a perching owl.

After the demonstration, Ella donated the piece to the Hospice, which will be sold at this year’s summer fête on Saturday, June 2.

Ella’s show was one of the various craft activities at the Hospice’s Man Shed, which, in spite of the name, is used by women.

Ella’s large-scale chainsaw carvings can also be seen at Esher Cricket Ground, where she has transformed a tree into a cricketer.

The artist also constructed a memorial bench to honour the memory of Claygate man who passed away, which sits outside his local pub.
