Lambeth Council’s new chief executive will be given a £185,000 salary.

Interim chief executive Andrew Travers, who is currently on £123,512 in the job, is set to permanently take over after a recommendation from council leader Lib Peck.

Mr Travers previously worked at Barnet Council, but left by “mutual agreement” after a local election-day blunder meant many people were unable to vote in 2016.

Thousands of names were missing from electoral lists at the north London authority’s 155 polling stations, according to reports.

Mr Travers will take over from previous chief executive Sean Harriss, who resignation in October last year following a period of ill health.

Mr Harriss took home a £209,809 salary in 2017 to 2018, with his total remuneration including pensions pushing this up to £245,243.

He had been working at the council since 2015.

Mr Travers and Mr Harriss both received their salary in the last financial year, despite Mr Harriss being off work from June 2017.

Mr Travers will be offered the job if there are no objections from Lambeth Council’s cabinet, according to council documents.

“An offer of employment as Chief Executive can only be made where no well-founded objection from any member of the Cabinet has been received and is subject to approval from Full Council,” the documents read.

“Once this process has been completed, the Leader of the Council, in consultation with the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development will determine the final contractual arrangements.”

The search process took a month, according to council documents.

Mr Travers will receive his pension and other on-costs on top of his £185,000 salary, according to the council documents.
