Roehampton residents have come together to save their local playing fields.
Known as the Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust, the group represents the community surrounding Roehampton Playing Fields in West Putney.
The group came together earlier this month not only to watch the final cricket game but also support their efforts to save the playing fields.
The fields were to be leased for a period to a private sector investor. Following this, the trust formed, and Wandsworth Council has put the plans on hold.
With the support of the local MP, Justine Greening and key councillors, the community is now waiting for the council to amend its original plans and get behind the Trust with its full support. That decision is expected this autumn and will give Roehampton Playing Fields a bright new future.
Steffi Sutters – Cabinet member for community services & open spaces said: "Council officers have held a number of constructive meetings with the Trust and we are working as quickly as possible to find a solution that supports the interests of the local community and secures the future of the playing field."
