More people quit smoking in Croydon than anywhere else in the UK.

The latest figures provided to NHS England revealed that just four weeks after signing up to the Live Well Croydon programme, 80 per cent reported they had not taken a puff since.

A Croydon Council spokeswoman said they were "committed to improving the health and wellbeing" of residents.

"Our Live Well Croydon programme, which is an holistic healthy lifestyle service, includes the offer of a year’s support to help people give up smoking," she said.

"This level of specialist support from the Live Well Advisors working in the service, has been successful in getting smokers to abstain from the habit."

The figures also revealed that the service, which aims to improve people's mental wellbeing, reduce alcohol consumption or eat healthier, among other things, had cost the council £591,421 between April 2017 to March this year. However, there are not exact figures for how much the smoking service had cost.

“We have an established healthy lifestyle website for residents at www.JustBeCroydon.org that is part of Live Well Croydon," the council spokeswoman said.

"This has advice on a range of health behaviours including quitting smoking, losing weight and becoming more active.

"In addition, residents can complete a free online health MOT which gives a personalised report and access to resources to help people to improve their lifestyle.”
