Want to work for a local paper with a great history that has been the launch-pad for many a top journalist’s career?

Dare to cut your teeth on one of the best and busiest news patches in the country where big breaking news and some of the most bizarre stories you’ll cover as a reporter are never far away?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee journalist who wants to make his or her mark.

A tabloid at heart, News Shopper has been dubbed many things such as “the greatest, most WTF local news site in existence” by Buzzfeed. We wear these descriptions as badges of honour.

At the same time, we are in the serious business of providing the most complete local news coverage we can for the people of SE London and north Kent. You’ll cover crimes, emergencies, councils, schools, hospitals, parking, housing and just about everything else journalism can throw at you.

We’ve just been shown to be the top-performing Newsquest website, and the sixth best in the country overall, in the latest ABC figures for online audience growth, so we are very much a web-first, digitally-minded operation, but we also take great pride in the five editions of the newspaper we produce each week.

The ideal candidate for the plum job of being a reporter at News Shopper Is someone who is hardworking and committed, adaptable and good-humoured, fun and creative. We’re looking for someone with bags of enthusiasm as well as lots of ideas about the news that should be covered and how best to cover it across the multiple platforms of print, web and social. It’s undoubtedly a demanding role but also very varied and one which the right person can get a lot out of.

We pay a competitive salary, including the London Living Wage, with reporters working varying shifts across a seven-day rota. There are 25 days’ holiday and other benefits such as a company pension scheme.

If you think you fit the bill for a News Shopper reporter, send a covering letter and CV to editor Simon Bull at simon.bull@london.newsquest.co.uk
