An 11-year old boy from Surbiton who is visually impaired is starring in a new film about the stigma surrounding sight loss.

Shawn Sequeira is one of 10 children selected by the Royal National Institute of Blind People to appear in their short film, which marks the 150th anniversary of the UK charity.

The video features visually impaired children sharing their ambitions for the future and what the world of tomorrow could look like.

Eleanor Southwood, Chair of RNIB, said: “Wouldn’t it be amazing to live in a world where blind and partially sighted people don’t have to think twice about being included.

“That’s why our commitment is to breaking down the barriers that still exist, dispelling misconceptions and making sure that visually impaired children live in a society that values their experience and enables them to fulfil their potential.

“And with the future in the hands of children like Shawn, I know we can do it!”

Every six minutes, someone in the UK begins to lose their sight. Today, more than two million people living with sight loss in the UK, a figure that is set to double by 2050.
