An elderly couple have tied the knot six decades after their first marriage in 1955.

Charlie and Audrey Hailes, 88 and 83, were "happy and relieved" to finally remarry after their divorce 40 years ago.

The pair, who spent most of their lives in Green Street Green in Orpington before recently moving to Wilmington, married at The Manor Gatehouse in Dartford on October 1.

Watching on were their six children and some close friends.

Their son, and best man to dad Charlie, Ian Hailes, told News Shopper: "They looked every bit as happy as their wedding day photos from 1955.

"It was a fabulous day that had a magical dream like Disney quality. The venue has some fantastic rose gardens that looked great in the autumn sun and they provided a great backdrop for some memorable photos."

Ian, 47, said a larger reception was planned in The Chelsfield Pub afterwards before his mum broke her femur bone two weeks earlier.

A party is being organised for later in the year so Audrey can dance with her new husband.

Charlie and Audrey first met at a dance hall in Peckham Rye and jazz music from that night was played at the ceremony.

An argument 40 years ago led to the divorce and both remarried afterwards.

However, last year they rekindled their love when their children suggested they move back in together.

Before the wedding Ian joked that he "didn’t for one-minute think they would marry" but said it was great seeing his parents happy again.
