Members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) from Wandsworth, Putney, Roahampton and Wimbledon are expecting to raise thousands for Royal British Legion.

The AMEA UK is launched their poppy appeal campaign where they will be manning almost 35 stations over London.

This year hundreds of volunteers are looking to raise a staggering £1.5 million by selling poppies door to door, through stalls at local supermarkets and at train stations.

Every penny raised goes to the charity.

The Deputy Mayor of Wandsworth Borough Council, Councillor Mrs Jane Cooper launched the campaign at Southfields Station on Saturday, she said: “I am delighted to be here with my friends from Ahmadiyya Community, you are very much part of the community and do so much. I am so pleased to be with you to launch the poppy appeal.”

Councillor Guy Humphries also joined the Ahmadiyya Community at the launch and said: “It is absolutely incredible, it is amazing how you done so well and the efforts of the organisation to achieve this can’t be under estimated , it’s such a good cause and your support won’t be forgotten.”

At East Putney underground Station, Justine Greening MP launched the campaign at, she said: “First of all it is really important year with it being centenary of the First World War, I think it’s fantastic the Ahmadiyya Community does these poppy appeal stalls all over the place, not just in East Putney but I think the chance to raise money for a brilliant cause and to do what you are doing, I love it, so I thought I should come down to support you and to say best of luck.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association UK’s Poppy Appeal campaign is linked to Walk for Peace where hundreds of thousands of pounds are raised for UK charities every year. To date, the AMEA Poppy Appeal has raised an incredible £350,000 through hundreds of man hours by its members volunteering across the UK.

Mr Ahmad Ahsan, Regional Coordinator for CWFP, said: “Islam teaches that half of your faith is loyalty to your nation and thus bearing in mind, as Muslims, we should strive to serve our nation in any way, shape or form.”
