A new enterprise to support the homeless has opened in Clapham Common underground station, in collaboration between the Mayor and TfL.

Change Please is a coffee company that trains homeless people to become baristas. The award- winning coffee company is also working alongside Clapham Common station shelter, Ace of Clubs.

Cemal Ezel, founder of Change Please, said: “Sadly, homeless individuals are 13 per cent more likely to be the victims of crime and with winter approaching it’s understandable so many seek sanctuary across TfL’s network.

We’re therefore so happy the Mayor of London and TfL have chosen Change Please to open at their stations, helping us fight the growing problem of homelessness and giving commuters a way to change lives every time they buy a coffee.”

With the funding of £60,000, Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London supported two new underground station kiosks across the capital, together with support, training and employment.

James Murray, Deputy Mayor for Housing & Residential Development, said: “Even one person sleeping rough in London is one too many, and the Mayor has made tackling homelessness one of his top priorities.

“Sometimes those sleeping on public transport can be hidden, and the Mayor’s outreach team is absolutely vital in offering them the support they need.

“By funding Change Please to launch these new kiosks, we can help provide more Londoners who have been homeless with a route off the streets for good.”

The profits of each cup of coffee sold goes directly in aiding Change Please to train and support homeless individuals. There are also plans for opening more coffee shops in a variety of locations across the capital.
