A new sixth which aims to help young people who are on the autism spectrum has been opened in Carshalton.

What used to be a former church conference where Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake held his surgeries has now become an educational facility.

Learners and staff have now been able to see inside of Eagle House Sixth Form (Strawberry Lodge) in Strawberry Lane, which is based at a 19th Century house.

It’s a short distance away from Eagle House’s secondary school which is in Brighton Road.

The sixth form will cater for a “variety of cross-curricular and vocational learning” and use a “successful combination of in-house qualification and attendances at local colleges”.

Mr Brake visited the new facility as he met with its head of education Francesca Arocas before being shown around by the head of sixth form Elizabeth Lickiss.

Eagle House has two schools – one in Mitcham and the other in Sutton – with the latter open to learners aged from 11 to 19 years old.

The group has been working with children and young people with an autism spectrum disorder, as well as other associated difficulties, for more than 14 years.

Their post-16 department is across two sites – one at Strawberry Lodge and the other at the secondary school in Brighton Road.
