A lorry load of roof tiles weighing four tonnes was blatantly dumped on a residential road in Chislehurst.

Furious Bromley Council said the brazen fly-tip spoiled the environment and was dangerous for road users and it is now encouraging witnesses to come forward.

The roof tiles were left on Belmont Lane near Edgebury, and in the adjacent footpath next to Belmont Open Space last week.

A tipper type truck is believed to have reversed along the footpath before dumping the waste.

The council is now appealing for witnesses to help prosecute the culprit who left the mess on the road and pavement.

Councillor Kate Lymer, executive councillor for public protection and enforcement, said: "This latest flagrant example of dumped rubbish not only spoils the environment it is the dangerous behaviour of a small minority who seem to have total disregard for road users.

"Although the time-consuming clean-up operation was carried out by our contractors, residents helped too and did a magnificent job. We’re working hard to stamp out fly-tipping in our borough through our 'fly-tippers – we’re watching you campaign'.

"Someone might have seen something, no matter how small or insignificant, we want to know. We take this type of crime incredibly seriously, so if your information enables us to prosecute, we’re offering up to £500 as a thank you."

Bromley Council removed the tiles on Friday (November 6).

Anyone who witnessed the fly-tipping is asked to contact police and inform the council here www.bromley,gov.uk/envirocrime
