Balham is getting itself a new ice-cream store.

A planning application had been submitted to Wandsworth Council in September to transform the vacant Oriental Blooms in the high street into a Jefferson's Handmade Ice-cream.

Now those plans have been approved.

In a document attached to the application, it said the company hoped to take advantage of the "vibrant" area.

"It is our client’s intention to run an all-day ice creamery named Jefferson’s selling high quality cones and a range of flavours," it read.

"This shop will help contribute towards the vitality and vibrancy of the surrounding local area broadening the food and drink offerings on the street and bringing it back in to use.

"Balham has witnessed significant change in the past number of years with various community engagement and funding improvements.

"It has become a destination in its own right with a lively market and café scene."

While there is no official opening date, the company took to Twitter earlier this month to say that that "early 2019" was the goal.
