A pub in Walton-on-Thames has raised £17,700 for the Princess Alice Hospice by running charity pub quizzes, casino and football match nights and encouraging regulars to perform challenges.

The Royal George on Hersham Road, which won the Ram Pub Company Fundraiser of the Year Away in 2018, donated a giant cheque to the Esher-based hospice.

Among the fundraising activities which drew the most interest, Micky Mac McMahon, who frequents the pub, went skydiving and raised more than £3,500 in May.

Landlady Sandra Fitschen said: “All our events specifically raise money for The Princess Alice Hospice.

“Most of us have some connection to the Hospice. It’s so local to us and has cared for many people’s family members and friends over the years.”

Tim Iredale, from the Princess Alice Hospice, said: “This wonderful sustained effort by such a great bunch of people as the Royal George customers and staff goes to show that time spent in the pub is definitely worthwhile.

“Without local support, the Hospice would not be able to provide the outstanding level of care it does. We’re very grateful for their continuing generosity.”
