With a cut of a ribbon in front of a crowd of would-be shoppers, the new Aldi in Colliers Wood was officially opened.
Team GB’s rowing sensation James Foad delighted the first 30 customers with a complimentary bag full of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s 'super 6 range' before sharing his success story with students from All Saints Primary School.
"What an experience today has been. It has been great to be able to get to know the adults and children of the community and hopefully I have inspired them all to lead a healthier lifestyle," Mr Foad said.
"Aldi is providing the people of Colliers Wood with affordable, high quality fruit and vegetables, so now is the time to get experimenting with healthy foods.”
Store manager Matt Heusch was delighted by the turnout.
"We would like to thank everyone for joining us this morning to celebrate our grand opening," he said.
"Having bronze medallist, James with us to cut the ribbon has made the day a special experience for us all.
"We look forward to meeting even more customers in the coming weeks and months.”
