Pupils at Falcons School for Girls and Peregrines Pre-Preparatory have brought Christmas spirit to Putney, in aid of the Wandsworth Foodbank.

Choirs from the two schools entertained passers-by in the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre, with beautiful renditions of seasonal songs such as ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’, ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’ and ‘Jingle Bells’. Pupils showcased their musical talents to the community in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the Wandsworth Foodbank.

During the impressive choral performances, pupils welcomed monetary donations for the charity which provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis, raising a commendable £256.

Headmistress at Peregrines Pre-Preparatory School, Sara Williams-Ryan commented: “We are so proud of our pupils for their incredible performances when spreading Christmas cheer within our neighbouring community. They have represented the school admirably while raising essential funds for a local cause.

“At the Falcons School for Girls and Peregrines Pre-Prep we encourage our pupils to engage in charitable endeavours, to instil within them from a young age a sense of empathy and the importance of giving.”

They weren't the only school spreading Christmas cheer this year. Burntwood Community have been busy collecting, filing and wrapping festive boxes for homeless charity SPEAR. Inside the boxes are an assortment or scarves, hats, gloves, chocolates, toiletries and other items that will make someone's life a little easier.

Students have also written a card to go with each box and 91 boxes were delivered to SPEAR ready for distribution.

This initiative is part of a year of fundraising and support that began with our ‘Sleep out’ event and has continued with other events that have so far raised an additional £500. With more ideas in the pipeline for next year we look forward to working with SPEAR in 2019.
