A Wandsworth table tennis prodigy is ready to rub shoulders with the best in the country.

Joseph Langham-Ferreira has earned himself a place a the PG Mutual National Championships after finishing third at the qualifying event in Preston.

Now the 22-year-old will compete alongside the top 20 ranked senior English players in Nottingham from March 1-3, and could even see himself matched up against one of England’s 2018 Commonwealth Games medallists, including one of the golden doubles pair Liam Pitchford and Paul Drinkhall.

Langham-Ferreira was ranked 16th for the tournament but picked up some great results, including defeating second seed James Smith.

“I put in some good performances and the highlight was beating James in round three because it was a really close match," he said.

“I wanted to get to the nationals to have my chance to play against the top players in the country.

"It has been a great weekend.”
