A decision has been made on what will become of the Colliers Wood Mothercare.

A planning application was submitted in November last year to turn the soon-to-be-closed baby store into a 24-hour-a-day gym.

In a document attached to the application, it described company The Gym - which will take over the day to day operation of the site - as a "low cost health and fitness centre."

"The Gym’s business concept is to provide greater accessibility to quality, private health and fitness facilities at a low cost so all people can achieve their personal health and fitness goals," the document read.

"The gym will provide a range of functional equipment and free weights but will not include wider facilities such as swimming pools or racquet sports which are typically found at established public facilities."

Now two months on, that application has been approved.

But in the council officer's report detailing the reasoning behind granting approval, he said more room to park would be a necessity.

"As the applicant is seeking flexible use...it is considered reasonable to apply the higher number of cycle parking spaces required," the officer wrote.

"As the D2 (health and fitness centre) would require the installation of 13 cycle spaces, this is considered the appropriate minimum number of cycle spaces for the proposed change."

There is no word yet on when the gym may open.
