LLANDUDNO lifeboat rescued father and daughter kayakers in danger of being swept away in high winds off Colwyn Bay.

The all weather lifeboat, William F Yates, was launched at 1.35pm last Sunday to search for two kayakers who had become separated from other members of their canoe club, and were struggling against a flooding tide and 25 knot winds.

An RNLI spokesman said: “The two kayakers, a father and daughter, were located 30 minutes after we launched, two miles off the coast at Colwyn Bay and were taken on board the lifeboat and brought to Llandudno lifeboat station.

“Both father and daughter were well equipped and sensibly stayed together until being rescued which made a huge difference to the outcome. They were very relieved to return safe and well to Llandudno, where they were reunited with their fellow club members.

“This was a great outcome potentially saving two lives, and highlights the invaluable collective endeavours of the Llandudno Lifeboat, Caernarfon based Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, and the Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team”.

The William F Yates’ coxswain Graham Heritage said: “In the rough conditions the excellent observation work of the volunteer crew members allowed us locate the kayakers quickly after our launch”.
