In just three weeks’ time, Clapham woman Anna Carrington will be attempting to conquer Italy’s highest mountain.

Taking the phrase, ‘going the extra mile’ to new extremes, Anna will be donning her crampons and tackling Gran Paradiso’s glaciers, all in support of orthopaedic charity, the Neverest Foundation.

Inspired by the story of former England rugby union player and friend, Ed Jackson, Anna will be stepping out of her comfort zone to help raise awareness and money for the cause.

“This amazing challenge and cause was introduced to me by Ed Jackson, a former England Rugby player who was left paralysed in a freak accident," she said.

"Ed has had an inspirational recovery, climbing Snowdon just a year after being told he’d never walk again.

"If he can do that, then I can do this, I hope.”

Ed was England rugby’s number 8 until he had the accident.

Two years after being told he’d never walk again, Ed is now climbing mountains and raising thousands for spinal injury centres.

Inspired and supported by Upbeat Drinks, Anna will be joining Ed on his journey, climbing Gran Paradiso as a key part of the training and fundraising.

“Aside from the amazing cause and supporting Ed, I’m excited for the personal challenge the climb represents," Anna added.

"I’ve never taken on a mental or physical challenge this large.”

“We forget how lucky we are to be healthy and have the ability to walk every day- Ed’s strength and recovery is inspirational and reminds us all to not take life for granted.”
