The punt regatta season opened on the Thames over the weekend, with a Walton-based club claiming three victories.

The Thames Valley Skiff Club (TVSC), who are based in Walton, stormed to three wins during the regatta, which was held at Walton on their home stretch of the river.

Describing the event, a spokesperson for TVSC revealed that the wins came in two of the doubles events (pictured) and in a novice race.

"July 13 saw the opening regatta of the Thames racing punting season with wins for Thames Valley Skiff Club in the Mens doubles, the Mixed Doubles and the Novice Restricted singles.

"Dittons Skiff and Punt Club won the 4th event the Mens Best and Best.

"This was a short programme but the races were competitive. The Season now moves on to the Hampton Court and Dittons regatta on July 20 and then the Chertsey regatta on July 27," the spokesperson said.

TVSC will hope to build on their opening successes in this year's punt racing season with the renowned Thames Punting Championships scheduled for August 11 in Maidenhead.

Punt racing was developed as a competitive sport at the end of the 19th century.
